Start exploring & find your perfect getaway trip in the river’s natural surroundings, it’s an amazing place!

  • Starting from the Peace Bridge at Buffalo, N.Y. take the QEW Highway to Burlington Skyway.
  • Follow 407 ETR to 400 North Barrie.
  • Take 400 North toward Sudbury (old Highway 69 North). You will pass the town of Parry Sound.
  • Continue on 400 North (old 69 North), you will cross the Key, Pickerel and French River Bridges.
  • 1.5 miles (approx. 2.4 km) North of the French River Bridge to the exit Ch Hartley Bay Road/Ch Settler’s Road. The Bear’s Den Lodge sign is on the highway.
  • Turn Right onto exit for Settler’s Road/Hartley Bay Road at the stop sign turn LEFT onto Hartley Bay Rd. – follow gravel road 9 miles (14.5 km) to 2870B Hartley Bay Marina to register your license plate for parking.
  • Secure assisted parking at the Hartley Bay Marina. (For the Marina’s launching and parking fees.)
  • Bear’s Den Lodge is just a 5 minute boat ride or fly in to Bear’s Den. If you require water taxi, please ask the Marina to call us.

Using your own boat?

After you leave the Hartley Bay Marina, stay in the middle of the channel. Turn right and come directly into the front dock (with the swimming ladder) for assistance to your cottage rental. We are the third bay away and on the right. We will greet you with a tractor and trailer to assist in moving your gear.

Come straight into the front dock where Bear’s Den Lodge staff will assist you with your luggage & gear.

  • Coming from Sault Ste. Marie, take Hwy. 17 East 298 km (185 miles) to Sudbury, Ontario.
  • Take Hwy. 400 South (Old 69 South) – 100 km (60 miles). Just past Bear’s Den Lodge sign, take Exit to Ch Hartley Bay Road/Ch Settler’s Road.
  • At the STOP sign, turn Right onto the Hartley Bay Road – follow for 14.5 km (9 miles) to Hartley Bay Marina to assisted parking and valet boat launch.
  • If you require water transport, please ask the Marina to call us when you register your vehicle license plate. Bear’s Den Lodge water taxi and staff will transport you to our remote resort with all the comforts of home.

Using Your Own Fishing Boat?

After launching your boat at the Hartley Bay Marina, stay in the middle of the Hartley Bay Channel. Bear’s Den Bay is the third bay on the right, please land at the front dock for unloading.

Land at the front dock with the swim ladder. Please unload here and we will assist you with your belongings.

 

  • PLEASE PURCHASE VEHICLE GAS in ESTAIRE or SUDBURY if arriving from the NORTH.
  • Purchase fuel in MUSKOKA, PARRY SOUND, NOBEL, BRITT, POINTE au BARIL or FIRST NATIONS when traveling from the SOUTH.
  • Gas NOT AVAILABLE in ALBAN.
  • Fuel is available in Noelville, Ontario.
  • Boat gas is available at the Hartley Bay Marina, only.
  • The French River Provincial Park is uncharted waterways. Hydro Topo Maps are NOT available.
    • Detailed weatherproof French River maps are available at Bear’s Den Lodge Boat House.
    • Bear’s Den staff will assist you for your self-guided tours!
  • There may be some delays due to highway construction on 400 N of Toronto.
